Autodesk Revit 2025 is the industry-standard BIM software for architecture, structure and MEP. This guide covers the full journey on Windows: requirements, the two-part download, installation, activation and the most common problems.
System requirements
| Component | Recommended |
|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit |
| CPU | Intel Core i7 / AMD Ryzen 7, 2.5 GHz+ (higher clock speeds help most) |
| RAM | 16 GB minimum — 32 GB recommended for real projects |
| GPU | DirectX 11 capable, 4 GB+ VRAM |
| Disk | 30 GB free, SSD strongly recommended |
Step 1 — Download (two parts!)
- Sign in at manage.autodesk.com with the account that holds your subscription (or start a 30-day trial from autodesk.com).
- Open All Products and Services → Revit → Downloads, choose 2025 / Windows 64-bit / your language.
- Revit 2025 downloads as two installer files (part 1 is an .exe, part 2 a .7z-style archive). Download both.
- Put both files in the same folder and don't rename them — the installer finds part 2 by its exact name. Never extract the archive manually.
Step 2 — Install
- Right-click the part-1 .exe → Run as administrator.
- Let it extract both parts — this takes several minutes and can look frozen. Be patient.
- Accept the licence terms, keep the default path (
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit 2025\) and click Install. - The content library phase near the end is the slowest — allow 20–30 minutes total on an SSD.
- Restart Windows when it finishes.
Step 3 — Activate
- Subscription (most common): launch Revit and sign in with your Autodesk ID — the licence validates automatically.
- Serial number: if your licence came with a serial number and product key, choose Enter a serial number on the licence screen and type them in.
- Trial: pick Start a trial — you can convert it to a full licence later without reinstalling.
Troubleshooting
Extraction fails or errors immediately
Almost always a missing or renamed part-2 file. Confirm both files sit in the same folder with their original names, then re-run. If a download was interrupted, re-download that part.
Installer looks frozen
During the content library phase Revit can sit at the same percentage for 10–20 minutes. Don't kill it — check Task Manager: if disk/CPU activity continues, it's working.
Crash on first launch
Update your GPU driver from NVIDIA/AMD/Intel directly (not Windows Update), then try again. Also install pending Windows Updates.
Permission errors during install
Run as administrator, and temporarily disable third-party antivirus — it commonly locks Autodesk installer files mid-copy.
