AutoCAD LT 2025 is Autodesk's professional 2D drafting and documentation software. This guide walks you through downloading the official installer, installing it on Windows, and activating your licence — plus fixes for the most common problems along the way.
Before you start — system requirements
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 (64-bit, version 1809 or newer) | Windows 11 (64-bit) |
| Processor | 2.5–2.9 GHz | 3.0 GHz or faster, multi-core |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Disk space | 10 GB free | 10 GB+ free on an SSD |
| Graphics | 1 GB VRAM, DirectX 11 capable | Dedicated GPU with 4 GB+ VRAM |
| Other | Internet connection and an Autodesk account (free to create) for activation | |
Note: AutoCAD LT 2025 runs on 64-bit Windows only. Mac users need the separate AutoCAD LT for Mac edition.
Step 1 — Download AutoCAD LT 2025
- Sign in to your Autodesk account at manage.autodesk.com. Use the same email address your AutoCAD LT subscription is assigned to.
- Open All Products and Services from the left menu.
- Find AutoCAD LT in the list and click Downloads.
- Choose 2025 as the version, your language, and Windows 64-bit, then click Download (or Install for the streaming installer).
If you haven't purchased a licence yet, you can also start Autodesk's official 30-day free trial from autodesk.com and activate it later once your subscription is assigned.
Step 2 — Install
- Right-click the downloaded installer and choose Run as administrator.
- Wait for the installer to extract its files — this can take a few minutes and may look idle; don't close it.
- Read and accept the licence agreement, then click Next.
- Keep the default installation path (
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\) unless you have a reason to change it. - Click Install and let all components finish — a typical installation takes 10–20 minutes.
- Restart your computer when the installer completes. This step is optional but avoids most first-launch issues.
Step 3 — Activate
AutoCAD LT 2025 subscriptions activate by signing in — there is no product key to type for a standard subscription:
- Launch AutoCAD LT 2025 from the desktop shortcut.
- When the licence screen appears, choose Sign in with your Autodesk ID.
- Sign in with the Autodesk account that holds the subscription (the same account from Step 1).
- The licence validates online automatically and AutoCAD LT opens ready to use.
To confirm activation later, click your account initials (top-right inside AutoCAD LT) → Manage licence — it should show your subscription as active.
Perpetual / network licences: if you hold an older perpetual licence, choose Enter a serial number on the licence screen instead and enter the serial number and product key that came with your purchase.
Troubleshooting
Installer freezes during extraction
Give it 10–15 minutes first — extraction is slow on hard drives. If it's truly stuck, delete the temporary folder C:\Autodesk\, temporarily disable your antivirus, and run the installer as administrator again.
"Component failed to install"
Install pending Windows Updates, restart, and re-run the installer. If it persists, run Autodesk's official Remove tool (AutoRemove) to clear partial installs, then install fresh.
Sign-in screen doesn't load or loops
Check that your internet connection works and that a firewall or proxy isn't blocking *.autodesk.com. Sign out of the Autodesk desktop app if it's running, then try again. Resetting your Autodesk password also clears many stuck sign-in loops.
"Licence validation failed"
Make sure you signed in with the exact email the subscription is assigned to — check at manage.autodesk.com under Users. If the subscription was bought for you by someone else, ask them to assign it to your email.
Slow performance or display glitches
Update your GPU driver from the manufacturer's site, then inside AutoCAD LT type GRAPHICSCONFIG and make sure hardware acceleration is enabled.
Crashes on startup
Update Windows and the GPU driver first. If it still crashes, reset AutoCAD LT to defaults: Start menu → Reset Settings to Default (under the Autodesk folder).
