Step 1 — Remove other antivirus software first
Two real-time antivirus products fighting each other causes crashes and slowdowns. Uninstall any existing third-party antivirus (Settings → Apps) and restart before installing McAfee. Windows Defender steps aside automatically once McAfee is active.
Step 2 — Redeem your key & create the account
- Go to mcafee.com/activate.
- Enter your 25-character product key (from your TechHub delivery email) and your email address.
- Sign in or create your McAfee account. Use the email you plan to keep long-term — your subscription, device count and renewals are all tied to this account.
Step 3 — Download & install
- From your McAfee account dashboard, click Download for your device type.
- Run the installer (the full package is large — 600 MB to 1.2 GB — so a stable connection helps).
- Accept the licence terms and let it complete (5–15 minutes), then restart the PC when prompted.
Step 4 — Verify activation
Open the McAfee app — the home screen should show your subscription as Active with the correct expiry date. Real-time protection, VPN and identity monitoring switch on automatically.
Troubleshooting
- Installer freezes — check your internet stability, then run McAfee's official Pre-Install Tool and try again.
- Key rejected — enter it exactly as delivered (watch 0/O, 1/I) and make sure you're signed in to the right McAfee account before redeeming.
- Defender conflict warnings — normally Defender disables itself; if not, turn off Defender's real-time protection manually in Windows Security.
- Shows "expired" after install — sign out of the McAfee app and back in to resync with the servers.
